Yes, I am beginning to think it could be Satan! Just ten days prior to my departure for Russia, it happened again…a five day Mercy hospital vacation for an Ecoli and Staph infection in both kidneys. I have to blame someone, and I think Church Lady has the right idea! I love Dana Carvey.
We leave this afternoon to head south to the Texas mini ranch, and then Saturday morning I fly of to Moscow. I have taken my stem cell sister Vicki Taylor Wilson’s “Carry On Bag Packing” class 101, and I am ready to go. It took some adjusting and some omitting of a few things I decided I really didn’t need, and I am now a graduate Cum Laude of Vicki’s class. I could have been Magna Cum Laude, but the taking out and re-packing thing brought down my GPA. Many thanks to Casady Class of 1974 (the best class ever!) friend Don Abernathy for the loan of a carry on bag with four roller wheels. Much easier to handle from a wheelchair escort than a bag on my lap.
Can you imagine my departure from Houston? When I land in Moscow it will be 47 degrees, heck it snowed a bit there last week! The temperature in Houston is expected to be 89 degrees on Saturday, what kind of fool will I look like? Wheeling through the airport while other travelers get whiplash catching a glimpse of the fool in of all things…a wool jacket? But I will be oh so prepared when I land.
Many of you remember my grandson Ethan, who was 18 months old when I was in Moscow for the stem cell transplant. Well that little one has grown and is now a full fledged OU fan, with a bicycle and a trip to Disneyland under this belt. He is a mischievous one, witty and a bit sassy at times. What more could one ask from a 3 and 1/2 year old.
So the countdown is on, and I’ll be in the sky bound for Moscow soon. I will keep in touch every day with photos and updates.
Special thanks to some wonderful friends…to Lois Warner who was my ER escort this time sitting with me eight hours until I was settled in a room. My hubby was teaching class and could not get free, it’s not looked kindly upon to bolt and leave a a class sitting there. And once more to Ann and Dave Coleson for the visit with cherry limeade. Sorry guys for falling asleep as I was talking to you, drugs you know. Lois, Ann was a bit jealous she was not my escort again, so if I ever end up in that predicament again, I will call BOTH of you!
